Itinerary
Day 1: Khorog – Ishkashim (120 km, ~3–4 hours)Morning:
Depart from Khorog, following the scenic road along the Panj River.
En Route:Garm
Chashma Hot Springs: Stop for a soak or quick visit to these mineral-rich
natural springs.Villages like Andarob for
scenic photo stops.Afternoon: arrive in Ishkashim, a small town marking the gateway to
the Wakhan Corridor.Optional visit to the
Ishkashim Bazaar (if operating, usually Saturdays).Evening: Overnight at a guesthouse in Ishkashim. Prepare
for the next day’s journey deeper into the Wakhan.
Day 2: Ishkashim – Langar (140 km, ~5
hours)Morning: Drive along the Wakhan
Corridor, with stunning views of the Panj River and Afghan villages across the
border.Highlights:Khaakha Fortress: Explore this ancient fort with
panoramic views of the valley.Yamchun
Fortress: A striking hilltop fortress offering incredible vistas.Bibi Fatima Hot Springs: Stop for a relaxing soak in
these famous natural springs.Afternoon:Visit Vrang Buddhist Stupa, displaying the
region’s Buddhist history.Continue to
Langar, famous for its petroglyphs and proximity to the trek route for Engels
Peak.Evening: Stay in a guesthouse in Langar.

Day 3: Langar – Trek to Engels Peak Base Camp
(~6–7 hours)Morning: start your trek to the Engels Peak Base Camp (approx.
4,200 m).The trail begins
with a steady ascent through the high-altitude landscape, offering spectacular
views of glaciers and snow-capped peaks.En
Route:Enjoy stunning panoramas of the
Wakhan Corridor and nearby peaks.Spot
local wildlife, such as ibex or golden eagles, in the rugged terrain.Afternoon:Arrive at
the base camp, surrounded by towering peaks and pristine wilderness.Set up camp, rest, and enjoy a warm meal prepared by the
trekking team.Evening: Overnight camping
under a clear, star-filled sky.
Day 4: Base Camp – Descend to Langar – Drive to
Alichur (~5 hours trek, ~3 hours’ drive)Morning:Descend back to Langar after enjoying the sunrise
and views from base camp.The descent is
quicker, allowing time to reflect on the trek and take photos.Afternoon:Return to
Langar, freshen up, and then drive to Alichur, a small settlement in the
high-altitude Murghab district.Stop en
route for views of the Pamir landscapes, including wide-open plateaus and
distant peaks.Evening: Stay in a
traditional Pamiri yurt or guesthouse in Alichur. Experience local hospitality
and cuisine.
Day 5: Alichur – Khorog (~5–6 hours’ drive)Morning Depart Alichur and drive back toward
Khorog.En route, stop at Yashilkul Lake, a
serene high-altitude lake surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery.Afternoon:Continue
the drive, stopping at viewpoints and small villages for breaks and interaction
with locals.Evening: Arrive in Khorog and
check into a guesthouse or hotel. Relax after the journey and enjoy a warm
meal.
Day 6: Explore KhorogMorning:Visit the
Pamir Botanical Garden, one of the highest in the world, for panoramic views
and local flora.Explore the Central Park
and Pamir Eco-Center for insights into the region’s culture and environment.Afternoon:Take
a leisurely stroll along the Gunt River or shop for local handicrafts at the
bazaar.Evening:Wrap up your journey with a traditional Pamiri dinner at
a local restaurant or guesthouse.
